Two losses and we’re already thinking about next year? Can we let this season play out?

@drgnslayr No…that’s the list of people that EAT at McDonald’s…:)

RE: "We don't have anybody that can guard him"
THAT is a big reason why we have reason to think we will be better next year. (Of course, if we’re being honest…there are a lot of guys that our team can’t guard)

RE: Are we done recruiting?
I must say that Devon’s whole family looks great in Jayhawk attire!
-
RE: Kubler-Ross model, stages of grief
@Blown I agree. He has earned a down year or two. We all have been spoiled by his success. His success is also his worst enemy. Oh…and if this is a down year…it’s a pretty darn good down year.

RE: Svi picked as high as #12 in next year's Draft.
@nuleafjhawk Can we get his footprint on a letter of intent?:)

The Phog is a special place
Fellow Jayhawks: I have lived in another state for many years. I come back to the area about once a year to see family (not nearly enough). It took me a long time, but I finally made it back to see a game a few years back when we played USC (Selby’s first game) and the Michigan game (I forget which one was first). I missed a couple of years, but made it to the Georgetown game last year and I will be at the Lafayette game on Saturday. I can’t wait. I can’t explain the feeling I had while doing the Rock Chalk Chant. Unbelievable. Tears did not come to my eyes…but it was close. I feel so lucky that our basketball tradition is so rich and our program is so great. To be a part of the atmosphere at Allen Field House is hard to describe. I am lucky to have the life that I have with my family and I don’t regret moving away. But I am jealous of my old college friends who get to attend every game (or most anyway). So…don’t take what we have for granted. We’re all very lucky. RCJH!

RE: Down go the Cyclones
I usually want the Big 12 to do well. But, I found myself rooting for ISU to lose and Baylor and Texas to win. I guess I’m bitter about ISU…and want them to be put in their place. Now we will have to listen to all the crap about the Big 12 being over rated. In my opinion, the performance of a team in the tournament does not necessarily say anything about how good of a team they are. How often in the regular season would UAB beat ISU? or Georgia State beat Baylor? Not very often. The tournament is a different animal… It is so hyped. These are still kids. The pressure on the favorite is so great. The under dog plays free and easy. There can be very little correlation between the regular season and NCAA tournament. We’ve see that with KU many times. I am going to be very PO’d listening to how the Big 12 was over rated. These 3 loses don’t say anything about the strength of the Big 12 (well, OK…the Texas loss might say something about how good they are…Butler probably beats them during the regular season).

RE: Pan American Games basketball
I was fortunate enough to be in Toronto on business this week and went to Tuesday and Wednesday games. Justin Wesley was at the Tuesday game and last night I spoke to Keith’s dad. He said Keith continues to get love from Jayhawk Alums when he runs into them. Once a Jayhawk always a Jayhawk. Keith looked good. It was great to see that left handed shot again!

RE: 10 Greatest Kansas Basketball Players of All Time (by SN's DeCourcy
This list has no credibility with me if JoJo is not included. I have him at #3 behind Wilt and Danny. The exact position is debatable but to not have him in the top 10? No way!

RE: WHAT DOES CONFERENCE PLAY MEAN TO YOU?
The New Year always means the beginning of conference play to me. I look forward to all of the games, especially the big ones…like tomorrow. KU basketball gets me through the cold winters.

RE: No Change to the OAD rule.
No matter what the rule is…you can’t protect kids from going pro when they shouldn’t have. Bad decisions will still be made. I wish they would have gone with the proposed zero & 2.
-
Have we seen this movie before?
Consider these comments observations…not complaints.
It seems all of our conference home games have had a lot in common
1.We get off to a good solid start and open a lead or have a good lead early on
2.Lackadaisical or sloppy play leads to turnovers and other team gets back in the game.
3.We have a spurt or two to widen the lead
-
#2 above happens again.
-
Opposing big man has a career game.
-
LL has a double double (OK…not this time…only in rebounds)
-
Other team outplays us for long stretches of the game.
-
Other team hits open outside shots (well…not this time…if they had…we might have lost)
-
We leave the other team WFO for outside shots.
-
Josh misses FTs that help to allow the other team to remain close…
-
We fail to convert lobs (seems to be more and more often now) (OK, those 2 are complaints)
-
The clock malfunctions to make it interesting (OK only today’s game)
-
We hit a couple of shots in the last 2 mins. to make it look easier than it was (ditto…only this game).
Summary: It is really great to be 18-1. It just seems like this team plays well enough to win. The win in Ames gives me hope that we can keep doing this.
The next 2 weeks will tell us a lot.

Exciting day today. We’ve all been waiting for the announcement of when there is going to be an announcement!

RE: MICHIGAN STATE SPARTANS - SUNDAY - CBS - 4:15 P.M.
Those cheerleaders look pretty solemn…hopefully they’ll be looking that way around 6:15 CST on Sunday.

RE: KU Pulps Orange Boys: Graham Leads Win from Higher Dimension
@KUSTEVE That is a good observation. I thought Marcus looked tentative and confused. When you think about it…makes sense against one of the best zone defenses you will see. Only played 8 minutes. He did make some good defensive plays though…as usual.

RE: Man will this week ever end?
@jayballer73 I’m actually enjoying the week…enjoying my team being in the FF. It gets mentioned all the time and I never get tired of hearing it.

RE: Rock Chalk Tech Game
OK. No damage with the Mitch Moore combo…put the other guys in , please.

RE: Trouble?
@dylans Did you see Avenatti’s comment? “Who conducted the investigation…Inspector Clouseau?” Not an upstanding citizen, but the comment is still funny.
-
RE: Scott Drew, meet Tubby Smith.
@iowajayhawk2005 Tubby won a national championship. I don’t think you can win a national championship (no matter how much talent you have…almost) without being a decent coach.
-
RE: Victory Over GU: The Power Of Three And Return Of The Quick Hook
We were roughed up pretty good inside at times. Perry had a tough time inside. Again…bigger guys give him a problem. 3 pt shooting saved us. Well, and FTs too. We made 10 2 pointers and 10 3 pointers. Was that the KU Jayhawks? Great win on the road.
-
RE: Bragg Commits to KU!
@icthawkfan316 Scrolling those comments on the other site for years always felt like driving by a car accident…you know you shouldn’t look and just keep driving…but you can’t help yourself.
-
RE: It may be Fool's Gold, Coach, but it's awfully pretty
@icthawkfan316 You’re right. Not enough comments about the game in general. I saw Greene’s lallygagging on defense and sure enough…he came out. It was pretty blatant lazy defense. I don’t understand why he would do that even for one play. We need him in there because he is an unbelievable weapon. Selden has shot the ball well enough of late that his 3 pt %, well as his FT % are now decent…unlike earlier in the season. I thought Cliff played well other than the first couple of trips…but Oidase did outplay him. I think Cliff will continue to improve. We finally got some decent seals inside in the 2nd half and got some easy baskets. One bad half, one good half…never heard that one before.
-
RE: Embracing the Good
@icthawkfan316 I agree. We all are guilty of focusing on what we aren’t instead of what we are…a top 10 team that controls our destiny in winning #11. We are spoiled from all of the past success.

RE: How to prepare for a Texas game as a KUBucketeer
@lincase I say DVR the game. Watch it later even though you know the outcome. I am a rabid KU fan, but I say go see your grandson.
-
RE: I love KU basketball
I look forward to keeping in touch and discussing the finalization of recruiting, the summer games, and predictions for the upcoming team. Each basketball year is a new one. Should be fun.
-
RE: Pan American Games basketball
@JayHawkFanToo Kevin didn’t start the game, but he was his usual self. Played team ball. Got some garbage points.
-
RE: I tried so hard
@DoubleDD you have a right to your opinion, but I think you are way over reacting. Look at the track record. I feel the pain on the early exits. But geez, can you at least wait until we have a bad regular season, or another early exit, or something, before you start with that.? Let’s let this season play out. If we had a better last ten minutes and beaten MSU would you feel the same way.?
-
RE: Brannen Greene
@AsadZ Accountability is fine. But this year’s recruiting class is not complete. Last year’s was good with Bragg and Vick. We won another conference title last year. Maybe we will again this year. Maybe we will go to the final four this year. Or…maybe not on both. Let’s let it play out. We were in the final four in 2012 and missed the last 3 I just don’t think that is anywhere close to calling for a new coach.
-
RE: What's Wrong with this Picture?
@AsadZ Self went with the players that were playing well at the time. Without those offensive rebounds from Traylor…who knows what would have happened in that stretch. I hear you on the experience for the younger guys…but the number one goal is to win…I have no problem with Traylor getting those minutes.
-
RE: What's Wrong with this Picture?
@HighEliteMajor Probably not. But we don’t know. I don’t know if he was in when they cut the lead to 4. How does the game change if he doesn’t get some of those offensive boards? Again, we probably still win. The first road game of the season…in a tough environment like that, was probably not the place to get Diallo and Bragg their minutes. I noticed that Bragg came out when he missed that shot that looked like he was going to dunk. Quick hook…probably a little to quick. But, I don’t fault Self for playing who seemed to be the most effective.

RE: OKLAHOMA SOONERS - 8 P.M. ESPN
Tisdale was one of my favorite opponents of all time. He was the enemy when we played them, but you couldn’t help but love that smile. I had the pleasure of seeing him play in person as he was at OU when I was in grad school at KU. He passed way too soon.
-
RE: Could 11-deep rotation be ground-breaking News??
@tundrahok Yes, and as I posted on the other thread…our depth showed. Svi and Greene coming in and hitting 2 for 3 from 3 when Wayne and Devonte had off games. Our big guys getting in foul trouble wasn’t even an issue…we have guys to bring in.
-
RE: Kansas vs West Virginia
We lost the game by turning the ball over, letting them get dribble penetration, and by fouling too much. Even subtracting the 10 or so they scored at the line when we put them there on purpose, they still outscored us by 10 or so at the line. Heck, back off of them and let them beat us from the outside. Only Carter, I think, has proven the ability to hit the 3. Obviously, it is hard to win with 20 or more turnovers.
-
RE: How Important really?
Not that important during the season. But, I think we need to “hang around” in the top 5 so we can try to get a #1 seed in the tournament. Getting a #1 seed in the tournament is important…not critical…but important.
-
RE: Some bad news
This is LL’s chance to prove he can play like he did at the end of last year. If he can do that…for the most part…we’ll be OK. Bragg in there when we go 2 bigs…Coleby off the bench and Lightfoot when needed. Not ideal,…but the other guys have to step up.
-
RE: Lightfoot Unleashed
@HawkChamp I think recruiting a Lightfoot every year is fine. We wouldn’t want a whole team of them. But, having recruited Lightfoot is not our problem this year…Doke getting hurt and Bragg not developing as expected are our issues…hard to predict both of those things happening.

RE: "Blow-out" Quandary...
It worries me. I feel insecure with this team even though we only have 3 losses. We seem to play well enough to win. At Kentucky. Baylor at home. At ISU. At KSU. We have gotten it done…just as well as most teams in the past. We just haven’t had any easy wins at home in the conference…that is highly unusual for us. And we had been playing with fire with some of the close wins at home…we finally got burned at home by ISU’s hot shooting. I think that fact, along with the defense and front line concerns, are what has me worried about March. But as pointed out…all you need to do in March is survive and advance. We have done a good job with that so far…

That’s exactly what I was thinking…including calling them dipwads!

RE: Bragg - Thoughts and Feelings?
I want him to come back. I think he can still be a good player. I have to think that the off court incidents affected his confidence. I hope he comes back. I do worry, though, that the admin. / Self doesn’t feel the same way.
-
RE: What About Mitchell?
No way that this kid is going to come to KU, sit out a year and then become eligible to play. Maybe he enrolls, waits for the NCAA to rule on the waiver. If he receives the waiver he plays. If he doesn’t receive the waive…he leaves school. I don’t think Self would willingly sign up for that. … but he can’t control whether the kid stays or not. Ideally, the NCAA would rule quickly, for the benefit of all involved…either way. But then, ideally, Jennifer Anniston knocks on my front door tonight…

RE: Oakland University Golden Grizzlies - Friday - 7:pm Metro Sports and KC 38.
This is going to be fun. Living in the metro area, I follow this team and go to a lot of their games. As mentioned, Nunn is really good. I recall that we recruited him. He scored 43 in an exhibition win vs. Central Michigan. 36, I think, when I was at the Ft. Wayne game. Martez Walker played at Texas and is a high Div. 1 talent. Jalen Hayes should play after coming back from an injury and is very athletic. Their point guards, Daniels and Neely are small and quick…they look like baby faced 8th graders, though. Of course, are guards are bigger and quick. This team can be good, but you see that they lost at Toledo and got blown out by Syracuse…Kampe said that the Syracuse big guy caused them all kinds of problems. I expect that we should pull away from them, but if they get hot…which they can…and we don’t shoot well, it wouldn’t shock me if they hung with us…but I don’t expect it. Their 3 high Div. 1 talent guys shouldn’t be able to beat our 7. It’s fun to see our Jayhawks play guys that I have seen play in person.

RE: Billy Preston and Dad moving to Lithuania....and other fake news
@nuleafjhawk Yes…We are spoiled. (And really lucky)

RE: Gotta strap it up fell'as
@Jayballer54 Agree. The OU /TCU game is not over. I think we should root for TCU, though. When contenders meet, I root for the home team to win. Otherwise, the contender that wins on the road has won a game that we must win to stay “even” with them. OU is good, but too much dependent on Young.
-
RE: Well guys
@Jayballer54 That’s why this board was created…and is the only KU board I go on… To avoid that kind of stuff.
