@Crimsonorblue22 My wife and I are going also. We are very excited, first game at the Phog since fall of 2008. Our adult children bought us tickets and hotel room for Christmas.

RE: Have you ever heard the phrase?posted in General Discussion
@jayballer54 I believe the phrase is “Down goes Frazier…Down goes Frazier” quote was from the late Howard Cosell at the George Foreman - Joe Frazier fight. Frazier was undefeated champion and had just beaten Ali.

RE: Oh happy dayposted in General Discussion
@wissox Your post reminded of the story about Larry LaPrise, the writer of the “Hokey Pokey”. The story goes that when Larry died they had a difficult time getting him to stay in the coffin… it seems he kept putting his right foot in, he put his right foot out, he put right foot in and he would shake it all about…
Enjoy your day!

RE: When one death is seen as more tragic than anotherposted in General Discussion
Does anyone remember the day Princess Diana died in a wreck. For 24 hours plus the networks had nonstop coverage. Did you know that Sister Theresa died the same day, and the only coverage of her was a in a news scroll at the bottom of the screen. I am sorry, but in my opinion there is no comparison between the 2 women and their positive effect on this world. That says all you need to know about the media priorities.

@jaybate-1.0 I saw some promising signs from Malik. He still has a way to go, but I thought his defense was much better and he wanted the ball in the last minute when WV had to foul.

Vickposted in KU Basketball / Other NCAAM
Vick has gotten a lot of (deserved) flack for his play in the conference from me and others here. I thought he was very active yesterday particularly on defense, he got his hand on at 4 passes maybe more and got after loose balls. It was really good to see. Keep it up Lagerald!

RE: This KU Win Over Duke and the Refs Ought to Be Dedicated to All the Teams that Have Appeared to Have Had to Play Duke AND the Refsposted in KU Basketball / Other NCAAM
@stoptheflop Svi played by far the best defense and hit the boards more than I have ever seen from him. I think his shooting was a little below par just from having tired legs (evidenced by being short on several) dealing with a much bigger player in Bagley, but he got the most important shot down.

RE: Wayne Selden: 2015-16 Big 12 Player of the Yearposted in KU Basketball / Other NCAAM
Interesting that 10 days ago the majority on this board thought in the upcoming season Wayne should be watching Svi & Brannen from the bench. Now he is being touted for POY. How quickly things can change. Great job by Wayne. I hope Svi & Brannen can improve themselves enough for this to be a debate come October.
No harm intended, just an observation.

RE: Time For Self To Kill C5posted in KU Basketball / Other NCAAM
@Crimsonorblue22 IMO, As far as the vets, I think you will continue to see Mari when the opposing bigs do a lot of screening causing switches. He can cover small players much better than the other 4. LL is the choice when strength is needed. Hunter more against running teams. I think you will see the frosh play more & more in games where they are not a negative with turnovers and blown assignments. Close games not so much.

@justanotherfan Good thoughts, thanks! On the other hand throwing up shot after shot didn’t work except to make Bell look like Ewing. A pull-up jumper might have been a good choice also. I realize we are analyzing months after the game (hindsight…). I know everyone here was as frustrated as I was seeing the team play so poorly.

RE: Why I hate WVUposted in KU Basketball / Other NCAAM
Carter is a terrific and intense defensive player but if he finished with 3 fouls you can bet he really had 12 (1 out of 4 called). He constantly slaps arms and grabs. I really held my breath when he was on Vick or Svi because he is so good at stealing the ball. The WV defense reminds me of offensive holding in football, it happens every play but they can’t call them all.

RE: KU vs Dukeposted in KU Basketball / Other NCAAM
@Lulufulu It is kind of interesting that KU beats a “5” seed by 4 (in a game they led by 20) and the pundits say the Hawks are vulnerable. Duke also wins by 4 over an “11” seed, literally the last team in the field, and they are world beaters. East cost bias, you be the judge.

RE: What We Have Here Is a Failure to Have a Trough, or KU Shoots 45% From Trey and Clemson Shoots 30%posted in KU Basketball / Other NCAAM
@jaybate-1.0 I think if you are up 15+ with 10 minutes or so to go and you want to use clock, I think the method should be to bleed about 10 seconds and then run your regular offense. I think when you bleed it down further your offense goes stale as our did and it is very difficult to re-ignite it.

RE: Wayne Selden: 2015-16 Big 12 Player of the Yearposted in KU Basketball / Other NCAAM
@jaybate-1.0 The shift to the 3 has another benefit for Wayne’s game and that is the chance to crash the offensive boards. At the 2 especially with Frank ending many possessions with a drive, that left Wayne to get back on D as the safety 80% or so of the time. At the 3 he is averaging 7 rebounds per game at the WUG. I think this keeps Wayne more aggressive hence more successful.

RE: Post Game Talk & Happy Holidays to All!!posted in KU Basketball / Other NCAAM
@BeddieKU23 You are right, LL is really great screening (Sasha similarity)… The alley oop tomahawk dunk by Josh was set up by a great screen by Landon off a side inbound pass from JJ to Frank back to JJ. Self gets more easy baskets on those than anyone. Svi was terrific also. Graham and Frank down some on offense but both were pretty good on defense (strong effort) especially in the first half.
Merry Christmas!

RE: The return of the high lowposted in KU Basketball / Other NCAAM
I get that. Your description sounded like JJ to me especially the passing and being able to go in out equally well. Even his outside shooting was pretty good the last half of the year. If Preston can be close to him KU can again be really tough with even more options.

@joeloveshawks the down side if Kentucky ends up in the NIT is they could go on run to more wins than in the NCAA’s. I like that we are gaining on them.

RE: exposéposted in KU Basketball / Other NCAAM
@nuleafjhawk I actually thought Vick started driving a step to far to where he took a guarded shot instead of the open one. I know he was trying to draw the man out for the lob,but that was defended better by Washington in the second half with rotation. To me if he was going to drive he needed to go all the way to the rim. He still played well but he could have had a huge game. I agree with others the standing around and the ball sticking was a problem. To beat the zone you have to move the zone. I wish Doke and Mitch would play Defensive positioning the way Clay does. He may not be big enough but he is almost always in the right place.

RE: The Octagon of ? - Big Monday - 8 pm - ESPNposted in KU Basketball / Other NCAAM
@HighEliteMajor 3 straight turnovers against OU (2 walks & an offensive foul on a screen) is not a good recipe for playing time. You don’t have to have positive plays as a backup, just no negative plays.
