Louisiana-Monroe hasn’t exactly been a household name in Sun Belt basketball mainly because the losses have far out numbered the wins. The Warhawks begin the 2013-14 campaign with the goal of avoiding the conference cellar for the fourth consecutive year. The struggles can be traced back to ULM having struggles putting the ball in the basket and keeping opponents from doing the same.

The Warhawks will try to change their fortunes with the addition of five JC transfers mixed in with returning starters. Amos Olatayo will be counted on to carry the scoring load after averaging nearly 16 points last season. Warhawk senior Jayon James earned a spot on the 2013-14 Sun Belt Conference Preseason 3rd team and the Warhawks were tabbed for 10th in the Preseason Coaches Poll. James, a forward, led the Warhawks in rebounds (6.1), assists (5.1), blocks (0.4) and steals (1.4) last year. He averaged 9.4 points per game and scored in double-figures 13 times. He was known to be turnover prone though (4.9 per game). He posted a career-high 26 points against Florida Atlantic on Dec. 29, 2012.

The 2013-14 season will be the first time the program will have a full scholarship roster under head coach Keith Richard after inheriting APR penalties.
