DeGrom and Ohtani

  • Jacob DeGrom and Shohei Ohtani could both win their respective MVP awards. The last and only time two pitchers won the MVP in the same year was in 1968 when Denny McLain and Bob Gibson won it.

I haven’t researched it, but I’d assume that this would be the first time where a pitcher could win the MVP and not the Cy Young in Shohei Ohtani.

    Really cool stuff.

  • Sorry I missed this. I generally take issue with pitchers winning MVPs. Of course Ohtani is an exception because he’s way more than a pitcher. DeGrom, give him another Cy Young as he clearly deserves it. But don’t give him an MVP too. He impacts 30 games or so. Let someone who is on a team that will clearly play in the postseason a chance at some hardware. While the Mets are in the drivers seat in their division they have no guarantees.
