Big 12 Expansion

  • The school presidents and ADs are meeting tonight and tomorrow to make a decision on conference expansion. From what I read, the TV networks are willing to buy out the increase in money clause for additional teams. My guess is the conference either postpones the decision or elects to stay at 10 member schools.

  • @JayHawkFanToo ya, I saw where ESPN will pay money for the Big 12 NOT to expand. Just my opinion, and that’s all not worth much but - - -this really disappoints me. - - I’m totally in favor 175% for expansion

This move to me just shows me how far ESPN has their head up the ACC’S ass. kissing ACC butt. Hell no they don’t want the Big 12 to expand it screws everything up, messes with their monopoly they have with the other So called power conferences.

I feel that with the Big 12 NOT expanding it has just sealed the fate of the conference, this Conference can’t survive without expanding, it will break up in the not to distant future. Then where we go? I am not a huge fan of us going to the Big 10 I dunno, just seems to me detracts from things when you have such mega super conferences. You can’t play a complete schedule, there are teams you don’t get to play. I dunno just frustrated with way things seems to be developing. Again that’s just me, probably way off well anyways there it is. - - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54 They own the SEC network. That’s the conference they’re beholden to, not the ACC. In general an East Coast bias exists across sports with ESPN, but I wouldn’t say they’re kissing ACC butt.

A lot of folks, Midwestern folks, west coast folks, would say ESPN covers us too much. We get to watch the large majority of our games on ESPN don’t forget. I think ESPN likes us. They make money off of us, so why wouldn’t they? Of course you don’t see our football games on ESPN, partially it’s a contractual thing, but mainly because we’re not competitive.

  • I still think ten schools is the ideal number for a conference. Financially, the Big 12 has been doing very well with the current membership.

  • @JayHawkFanToo

Distilled: it may be easier to engineer Ten CST TEAMS than 12, 14, or 16 CST teams, from dampening ad revenues for season and post season audiences.😉

And fewer bet balancing dynamics to deal with?

  • @jaybate-1.0

I am not that much of a cynic. I believe that ten is the ideal number because it allows all teams to play each other once in football and twice in basketball (the two sports that really matter) and have a true champion. I guess this makes me old school???

  • @JayHawkFanToo

I think I understand what you mean, but… I am the biggest optimist in the world; that is why I am able to take things as they appear and work with them . Optimism is central to all effective inquiry and analysis. Inquiry is optimism itself. It is premised on an asumption that things might be understood and for the better . Reduction is pessimism .
