Fastest post game wrap up ever for me...

  • Nice to see The Leadership Council (TLC) step up. Selden, Mason, and Graham led the team while Perry struggled to score, but still kept his head up and contributed with rebounds. A great win against a very tall team! Thanksgiving meal will taste a little better now.

  • @DoubleDD

    See Frank drive.

    Drive, Frank, drive.

    See Wayne drive.

    Drive, Wayne, drive.

    See Devonte drive.

    Drive, Devonte, Drive!

“A BAD BALL PRIMER” by Dr. Selfseuss

  • @DoubleDD

If KU WINS AGAINST A TALLER TEAM, IT HAS TO PLAY BAD BALL!!!

  • I saw plenty of ball movement, limited turnovers in the second half, excellent 3 point shooting by Selden in the first half to keep us in it. Team hung in there against the trees. Nothing bad about that.

    @jaybate-1.0

Sorry @jaybate-1.0 driving the ball to the hoop is not bad ball. It’s a practice that has been played since they allowed players to dribble the ball. Besides I’m pretty sure Frank and Devonte driving into the lane was by design, as Vandy kept switching their defenders.

Either way Rock Chalk my friend.

  • It was a defensive clinic. After they went up by 10 we outscored them by 23, then let them back in a bit.

Wishing we hadn’t stopped shooting the three. We’re good at that, not sure if anyone noticed?

@DoubleDD How’s your KU mood now? Recovering I hope?

    @wissoxfan83

Dude I’m on cloud nine. 😉 I believe

  • @DoubleDD @jaybate1.0 Correct me if I am wrong because the true definition of Bad Ball escapes me, but basically it entails driving in into the paint, collapsing the D for “short treys” or kicking it out to open 3 ball shooters.

I have to ask this question. WHY for the love of Phog Allen did Coach decide it was best to put in our two statistically worst players in crunch time, in the last 2.30 in a 3 possession game??

Ellis and Traylor combined for 2-11 FG and 12 boards.

Mickelson, Lucas and Bragg combined for 4-6 FGs and 8 boards in much less time.

Heck Traylor got his ass handed to him by 5-10 Frank Mason for a rebound!!
Frank out rebounded Traylor by himself with 5 Devonte had 6 boards and Wayne had a beastly 7 boards!!! How on earth is it a good idea to put in our two worst rebounding and scoring “bigs” in crunch time?

I mean, yeah they won and I thought it was a good win. They fought hard and made shots and out rebounded the much bigger team. They also basically broke even with TO’s. They won the Fouls stat by a mile and beat Vande in FG%.

PS. Im fraking psyched that Diallo is cleared!!

  • I love BAD BALL!

Everything is good about it, when they are bigger.

    Five minutes of GOOD BALL.

And 15 minutes of BAD BALL.

    It handled Stallings and Vandy!!!

    Bad Ball is great!!!

    Good Ball is great.

Self is too shrewd for most.

Sooner or later he will crack the IZZO NUT, too!!!

    Rock Chalk!!!

  • @Lulufulu

“Traylor got his ass handed to him by Mason.”

    PHOF !!!

  • @jaybate-1.0 Dude, I just call it like I see it. Rofl

    @Lulufulu

The concept of Bad ball was coined by @jaybate-1.0. It is basically like when a team has the game in hand and they are running out the clock. They pass the ball around and run the clock limiting possessions. When the clock gets to running out the point guard drives the ball into the paint looking for a foul or an easy pass to a big man.

Yet as I said before I believe Mason and Graham were driving by design. As Coach noticed that Vandy kept switching their defenders creating mismatches for KU.

  • Selden and Mason named co-MVPs.

No word yet on whether Cheick’s leaving the bench to mug Bragg got him most inspirational?!?!?

  • @Lulufulu

Watch the game again. Traylor has been boxing out very well in the last 4 games. People have talked in the past abount his poor rebounding and not boxing out, but he is consistently doing it now. When he does that, it clears a space for frank to swoop in. Its a start for jamari 🙂

  • Bate, If this is the definition of Bad Ball I say bring it on.

  • @AsadZ

It’s coming; this was what Dr. Self has been inventing and developing the last year or so. And he is not done yet.

    Rock Chalk!

  • Now let’s take this show to the continental 48!

  • Self’s second half adjustments to take on the switching was perfect. Devonte and Frank were like Pavlov’s dog salivating to drive and score or drive and dish. Don’t get on Self because Mari isn’t a look first scorer, he set some mean picks on some big men last night. Mari is the football player on this team. Yes it looks ugly when he is part of the weave, but that’s not the reason Self plays him. He’ll be on the court a while longer, and so will Lucas before Diallo starts. The teams we play before Conference will be a good period for us to discover Diallo and he to learn how he can make this team even better. Quit bashing our Bigs. They’re all we’ve got.

  • @wrwlumpy

I thought I had been making clear that despite none of our 5s being complete players, Self had found a way to get as good of numbers from our composite 5 as Embiid produced. Embiid was the second guy in the draft with those numbers. Double doubles every game from a 5 will get you a long way.

And I thought Lulu was just remarking that Ellis and Traylor that game were not efficient.

You are right about Traylor’s floor game being useful. I am among those doubtful Diallo will take over the 5 until next season. He will take from someone in the composite 5’s minutes, but it could vary game to game.

  • @jaybate-1.0 Maybe you need to give us all a tutorial on your interpretation of Bad Ball.

@wrwlumpy “Quit bashing our Bigs. They’re all we’ve got.” That’s a rousing defense.

  • @HighEliteMajor Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. For all of us on this site, list for us the things that you are grateful for about this team, just the things you are grateful for.

  • @wrwlumpy

Quit bashing our Bigs. They’re all we’ve got.

I thought @HighEliteMajor was bashing Self for playing some Bigs over others.

    Isn’t Mickelson a Big? Isn’t Bragg a Big? Isn’t Diallo a Big?

  • I was talking mostly about the game “chat” group.

    Gotcha!

  • @wrwlumpy

I didn’t participate in the Vandy chat group much if at all. Sorry.
