Fishing

@kjayhawks nice do you know if they use a hair rig?
-
I used to fish a little when I lived in Kansas. Lake fishing.
Carp are a blast to catch. They are so strong and feel like a Volkswagen on the end of your line.
I think we used bread on the lure.
Did some bass fishing out here on the West Coast, too. Been awhile though.
-
@approxinfinity I just put them on a treble hook
-
Is there a minimum temperature or time of year it has to be before you guys will bother fishing?
-
@approxinfinity Screw ice fishing, if that’s what you mean! For me, to get on the water with my boat, it’s got to be at least 60. To fish from shore - about 50, as long as it’s not windy.
-
I’ve been ice fishing. Been awhile.

Just walking around the pond is fine by me. My youngest fished for about 10 minutes caught one and I think he’s done for life - been there done that. My oldest will fish all day.
️ Although last time we were out he came jogging up after 30 minutes. I asked him if he was done and he said yeah, I’ve caught 8 already. Lol - no challenge ruined the fun.
-
@dylans ha. 8 in 30 minutes? Beast mode.
-
Can we just talk about fishing until the beginning of football season?

We have a little (1-2 acre) pond that I stocked back by @Crimsonorblue22 ‘s old stomping ground. The fish are ignorant of people. It’s fun, but not very challenging.
-
Put some crawfish out there too. Now I need someone to tell me how to find and catch them.
-
@dylans Tie a little chunk of liver on a string and toss it out. You’ll have a crawdad in no time.
-
Does KU have a fishing team? I’ll quit my job today and be the coach. I don’t know everything there is to know, but I’m passionate about it!

I had some chicken livers in the garage and didnt bother to refrigerate them because we had a cold spell. Then we had a warm spell and the funk was unimaginable.
-
@approxinfinity Catfish & Crawdads.
-
@approxinfinity If you’ve never had the pleasure of a jar of warm shad sides…talk about olfactory overload!
-
If I could only find fresh chicken liver. That frozen junk is crumbly.
-
@dylans food lion, buck 60. Do you guys have Food Lions in your parts?
-
@approxinfinity nope. Dillons, Walmart, Sam’s club - about the only local chains with food. Eastern Kansas would have more options - HyVee, Aldis, Whole Foods, and others I’m forgetting.

Hunter getting abused on the defensive end

Oops wrong thread

Commenting like Hunter plays defense
-
@dylans well i could buy a case of chicken livers and send em to you, they probably would just be more potent upon arrival.

Wheatie balls for carp. (box of wheaties, plus water, on a treble hook with a weight to get it to rest on the bottom).
My most memorable fishing day was when I was about 10 years old with my uncle Don on the Mississippi River, below a dam in the quad cities. 1975 ish. We caught about 100 carp. He just threw them all in the trunk of his Oldsmobile to take them back to Kewanee to a friend who like to eat them. He chain smoked, so the fish smell in the car actually wasn’t too bad.
Had some decent fishing since then, but–pound for pound–that was the best fishing day of my life. LOL
-
@DanR wheaties with honey? Or like how does it hold together? No issue with it flying apart when you cast it? Do they strike it quickly so it doesnt disintegrate in the water?
-
@approxinfinity Pretty sure it was just Wheaties. They are pretty sticky when you mix them with Mississippi River water. At the right consistency they’ll hold together for quite a while.
I actually prefer worms though for bottom fishing… they will stay on the hook forever, so it’s pretty relaxing. Plus, you might nab a catfish, drum or gar instead of a carp, depending on the body of water…
