  • @jaybate-1.0 Well now, jb, if J. Howard were to meet M. Jane somewhere in that stationary orbit over Watson L., we must needs alter that title to Remembrance of Things PASSED. (no malice…)

  • @REHawk

Coach, I have a serious question for you. Do you think there is any chance Snacks took a fall for someone?

(subsequent response to @JayHawkFanToo 's and @Crimsonorblue22 's comments below)

    @JayHawkFanToo

No, I have just visited Peoria, never lived there. So: no, I was just asking, not inviting someone to tie me in to the story. 🙂

I don’t know who he might take a fall for. It seems you have attempted to rule out some possibilities. Do you think you have exhausted the list? I don’t know much about this sort of thing? it just seems odd that a bright ambitious professional would knowingly expose himself to this kind of risk in an era of D1, when a significant number of big time programs had in recent years been objects of investigations and scandals originating outside the NCAA investigators activities. You know what I mean?

    @Crimsonorblue22

What happened has seemed very, very odd to me. I can’t really say why, even. Its not that it has appeared kind of orchestrated. I reckon many of these kinds of stories have appeared to get some kind of orchestration. It was more the way the orchestration appeared to go that seemed odd to me. Doesn’t media coverage of these things often start with an arrest, rather than the completion of service? I don’t know.

Regardless, I just wondered if anyone else thought it an odd situation, and a possibilty. I had read some posts where board rats that seemed in the know appeared very confident that Snacks would have to leave some how, maybe even fairly soon, as a result of this, and so I was kind of surprised with only a two week suspension. It also seemed odd to me how short of time Coach Self appeared to collect information about what I recall him characterizing as an internal personnel issue. In the past, I at least recall he has been pretty deliberate in some of his information gathering. If I recall correctly, sometimes weeks have passed. This time, again if I recall correctly, it appeared only to take a day or two of information gathering before he announced a two week suspension. Again, maybe its nothing.

I have tried to post some humor in the wake of the situation, but I really just don’t know what to make of oddity of the situation still. Maybe nothing at all.

    Rock Chalk!

  • @jaybate-1.0

Who do you think he could possibly take a fall for? His kids are very young and even then, as minors any record they would be confidential and eventually expunged.

Because of his high exposure position, I cannot think of any one that would be at similar risk; if his wife works in the private sector, this would not even be an issue unless she has job that requires government clearance, other than that, who do you have in mind that lives in Peoria?..BTW, if i remember correctly…didn’t you hint at one time that you lived there? Come on Jaybate, did he take a fall for you?

  • I thought about that too, especially after ralster talked about self kicking cf off team. Not always, “as it seems”. I also wonder if self knew and thought nobody would find out about it. Then, had to say what he did???

  • @Crimsonorblue22

Did @ralster actually write that Self kicked CF off the team? This is news to me. I recall CF announcing he was leaving for more opportunity elsewhere. I guess I missed it. Can you post the link to his post. I would like to read it. Thanks in advance.

  • @jaybate-1.0 serious

  • @Crimsonorblue22

Ok. Thx for the heads up.

  • @jaybate-1.0 you can probably find it better than me!

  • @Crimsonorblue22

    Don’t underestimate yourself.

    Or overestimate me.

I am just an old alias fond of the Jayhawks.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Were you referring to @ralster 's post here, about Self’s feelings towards Frankamp’s coming into the year?

  • @jaybate-1.0

I don’t believe that it is a complete list, on the other hand, other than his immediate family why would he take a chance when his position and salary put him at the top of exposure?

After going over the available information, I cannot think of anyone that he would take the fall for. Is it possible? Of course it is; is it probable? most likely not. Again, this is just my opinion based on the very limited information available. Maybe more information will become available in time that will change the perception, but at this time I believe we have seen as much as we will ever see.

I get the impression that Coach Self has soft spot for Jerrance, a former player, in the same way that he has soft spot for Jamari.

  • @JayHawkFanToo

    Seems reasonable.

  • @JayHawkFanToo we know so little about how he got caught too. Puzzling!

  • @Crimsonorblue22

It should not be that complicated for a reporter to get a copy of the arrest report or the transcripts of the Court proceedings. It is possible that a judge could seal the record but cannot think of a reason why any judge would do that.

  • I did not read that to say exactly what you are insinuating, Crimson. I think @ralster comment on that was slightly mis-stated because of exactly what is going on here. Now the ‘rumor mill’ is churning that CF got kicked off because of Marijuana.

I believe Ralster said something like (paraphrasing) “very recently a player was kicked off for transgressions less.” I was thinking that he was referring to Tharpe and his expose photographs, but you interpreted it to be CF because of the “very recently” remark.

Probably not the right thing to do to get rumors like this started.

  • @Blown you mean this?

@drgnslayr Connor Frankamp was asked to leave the team, but this was not publicized directly by Self. The only hint I will give, is that same issue reared itself not even 4 weeks after he was back in Wichita. We shall see if Gregg Marshall will put up with that nonsense. The other significant factor was that Frankamp’s dad was putting pressure on Self, and that is just something you do. Not. Do. Nobody learned anything from the Carl Henry saga (who had to be banned from the practice gym and from the KU sideline), or from the Andrew White transfer. The “Dads” don’t run this team. Sheahon Zenger does not run this team.

  • I feel bad for Frankamp, a Kansas kid with a lifetime dream of playing for KU and after reaching his dream losing it, “apparently” as a result of his own actions. I hope he gets his act together and manages to salvage his college career since playing in the NBA seems like a very long shot at best. He is now Marshall’s prized recruit and/or problem.

  • @jaybate-1.0 jb, I have posted a bit of humor about the Snacks Situation, too. On more serious note, I have not a clue as to details of arrest, or of Self’s prior knowledge (or no). I have calmed more than somewhat in my initial serious stance re the impact on KU Basketball and the likelihood that Jerrance will depart sooner than later. If Self can digest and process the incident without a knot in his colon, and if Snacks is sincere in declarations about future actions, then the issue will probably wither on the vine. Already, JH has gleaned recognition as one of the best recruiters in top level Div. 1 Hoops. An even brighter career awaits him. I would imagine that his arrest and media exposure has shaken him to the very roots. Heck, most of us have at some time in our lives been as daring or careless in personal conduct, even though we might not have suffered arrest or been in position to affect adversely such a colossal public entity. He is relatively young…but this past week, became about twice as old!
