KU how cold

  • TRey balling teams don’t win high percentage

  • Yes, I accepted this sad reality last night when I turned the game off at half time.

This team is going to be as successful night in and night out as their accuracy and volume from distance allows them to.

I am convinced that by seasons end Cliff will be able to hold his spot on the block, and we will win a game or two in the tournament. The journey there is going to be full of ups and downs because right now we don’t have a big that can seal and hold long enough to get an entry pass from the wing. This is a staple of Bill’s offense–ball reversals to entry pass from the wing.

I was first beginning to think that we didn’t have a guy that could get the entry pass in (remember how well BStar was able to accomplish this and feed the twins). Then after watching a few games, I have realized that we just don’t have a big who can control the space.

As a complete aside–I sense that this team has horrible chemistry issues–or they don’t have any chemistry at all.

  • A quick review of espn.com statistics shows that this team is assisting about 25% less than any other team in the Bill Self Era. Most teams assist at a rate of 16-18 apg. This team is currently at 12 apg. I am curious if this is a result of not sharing on the perimeter or not getting the entry pass in for an easy 2 and an assist.

  • @Blown or the bigs can’t finish once they get the ball?

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I’ll have to second that one. The bigs can’t finish once they get the ball.

The interesting thing is that we were 7-19 from three (36.8%). That isn’t horrible. 8-19 is pretty stout (42%), so one make away from excellent three point shooting.

This game had little to do with scheme from Self’s perspective. It was good old fashioned “want to”, as Roy would say. When you get blown out by 25 by an average team, it’s “want to.”

    “Want to” is fixable.

The systemic problem of our bigs’ inability to score at the rim is, unfortunately, a totally different conversation.

  • @Blown

But you couldn’t have turned it off at halftime because of our three point shooting. We were 5-10 at halftime. I applaud your prescience in turning it off, but it had to be because of our horrible ball management and ineffectiveness in the paint.

  • wissox–You detective, you 🙂 It was half time in my time (dvr) and went outside for a moment. I checked the phone and saw it was 63-40 mid-way through the 2nd half. My assumption at that point was the shooting turned south–knowing we couldn’t have established any inside presence. This team goes how it’s shooting goes as long as we have OneMovePerry in the post and the green version of Clifford the Big Red Dog.

  • @wissoxfan83 I never turn the game off, I was at the last border game, never say never! Or the Florida game this year!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I gave my wife the remote 8:00 minutes into the game and we watched Hallmark Christmas movies.

  • @wissoxfan83

KU got within 6 point with 17 minutes left in the second half and I am sure many fans thought…OK we got this one…and then KUwent ice cold and Temple upped the lead to 15 in the next 4 minutes and the game was pretty much over.

  • @JayHawkFanToo

I had it on the DVR, didn’t know the result. When we got it to 6 it was looking good. About 3 minutes later I started to fast forward the game and couldn’t believe my eyes.

  • @nuleafjhawk same results= crying!😭

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Lol

Right. Except one was lump in the throat, emotional tears and the other was rage filled, ruh-roh, what do we do now tears!

  • I would rather have average 3 pt shooting and anyone of our last 5 big men back. Throw in a healthy Keith Langford for good measure.

  • @wrwlumpy maybe if you are a good boy, Santa will find you!!!
