Let's beat the Cyclops chat here.

  • @Bosthawk I hear you. This season has been disappointing, after such a good and promising start. In an odd way it seems like my personal life has followed a similar path. This is just one of those times where you have to be strong and keep moving forward.

  • Joe “the Leprechaun” Lunardi has KU in the East as a 4 seed. I would not be surprised if this win for ISU bumps them from a 5 to a 4 seed after winning the B12 tourney. They will be rewarded.

KU - Rd 1 Salt Lake City v. Northeastern

    Purdue

    Wisconsin

    Virginia Tech

These are all 4 seeds. I don’t think the upper seeds are going to change. Many bubble teams will change. I don’t think KU could get worse than East coast, except maybe West coast. East coast is actually better.

  • Leaving this nugget here

34 minutes Dotson played the score was 67-65 ISU 6 minutes Dotson didn’t play the score was 12-2 ISU.

  • @BShark very interesting

  • We were not able to utilize our three most talented players. As excuses go, pretty valid.

We are so offensively challenged in certain matchups — Garrett and Mitch excel in certain matchups but not others. Agbaji going in the tank has been a killer.

@BShark So you’re saying Charlie Moore might not be that good?

  • @cragarhawk I mean we know Charlie isn’t good, and foul trouble kinda forced Bill’s hand but it would be a real game changer next year if McBride is a capable back-up or Garrett takes a big step forward. Just something to prevent Charlie from getting minutes. Garrett HAS to get his shot to a respectable level if he continues to get huge minutes.

    Something like that.

And I agree about Agbaji. Him just being a respectable shooter did big things for the team. The team can’t afford him being a non-factor because that makes too many zero impact offensive players in the rotation.

Whoever said Self didn’t care about this game earlier was right.

  • @BShark Garrett needs a complete makeover. It is arguably gross negligence for him to be allowed to continue to use that horrible form and release. I can’t even fathom it. Now, I’m not advocating the George McGinnis one hand jumper, but one where he get the ball well above his head and uses his wrist — it’s the opposite of what he’s doing and that’s the best place to start.

  • Agbaji was a game changer. Hope he gets some of that swagger back. I don’t think Garret ever magically becomes a great 3 point shooter. He’s been playing a day or two… But ya we gotta hope he could at least improve some. What else do we have on that front.

For the largest part they gotta stop taking off so many possessions on d in my opinion. Too many times of standing and watching a guy drive to the cup. Or standing and letting a rebound come down to the opponent. You don’t have to do that very many times in a game to make a double digits outcome

There we go. Let’s hope this is only what we look like on 3rd day in a row.

  • Lawson was constantly out of position on D and was too lazy to slide and help out when our guards got beat off the dribble. This more than anything affected the game. His lack of athleticism just kills us. This will be our undoing in the tourney. Even more than another poor shooting night.

  • @Fightsongwriter agree 💯 if we had a rim protector like Dave in there then maybe it’s not as big a deal. Unfortunately Dave rode pine. Maybe Self is keeping the high low to a min to bust it out in tourney. That’s my bet.

  • I can’t fault the effort tonight. But we did not execute at all.

  • Sadly Lawson never plays D. I guess it’s to be expected – maybe Self told him to lay low on D so he doesn’t foul out. Which is worse? Him not playing D or him in foul trouble and our offense is way worse?

  • Iiiiii belieeeeve Big Dave is the answerrrr

Iiiiii belieeeeve that Self will find a way

That Self will find a way

  • @HighEliteMajor So am I for suggesting it!

  • @jayhawkcsg Both.

  • He can’t play D! Can’t bend his knees or slide his feet, haven’t seen him do it. No D stance!

  • Agreed about Lawson on defense, at times it seems to me either he moves about as fast as a herd of turtles stampeding thru peanut butter or he just doesnt try.

  • I do think it helps with this young of a team to play the maximum number of games we could in KC. The atmosphere was good and similar to the ones we will see next week. Iike having very little to no expectations, we really haven’t had that luxury for more than a year or 2 IMO of the Bill Self era (06,09 but I’d say less this season because those teams won the conference).

  • A couple of postgame thoughts:

    — glad we got three postseason games under our belt. That will help the freshmen in the big dance.

    — Iowa State is a tough matchup for us if they are motivated. Our two bigs can’t keep up with their small ball lineup.

    — how many tournament teams play small lineups? Hope we don’t see em.

    — Grimes seems more involved and smoother, despite missing shots.

    — Garrett had 15 rebounds. 15!

    — Ochai has been invisible for awhile.

    — I wish Dotson was a few inches taller. Finishing, defending would be easier.

    — Dedric is just laughably bad on defense.

    — upon further reflection, I don’t like Ochai’s shooting form. What’s with that weird Jordan leg kick? Odd.

    — Dedric is a highly talented offensive player.

    — I’d like Charlie to leave the program when the season is over.

    — We desperately need recruits for next year. Bigs. Backup PG. A dunker.

    — The next few years very well could be about the same as this year.

    — Garrett. Hmm. Self is so high on him. Love his effort and sticktoitness. Just offers very little on offense. That hurts us as a team. He needs to finish stronger, which is easier than learning to shoot.

    — if we are to win an NCAA game, or make it out of the first weekend, we’ll need good matchups and … well, shit, I dunno what we will need! Miracle?

  • @jayhawkcsg I think Garrett can be effective when he is finishing at the rim…like he was doing before he got hurt. But he HAS to be able to do that or he is definite liability on offense. It is difficult to have high expectations for this team next week. We start 4 freshmen. It is really asking a lot to expect such a young team…unless the freshmen are going to be in the League next year (see…Duke, Kentucky) to go very far in the tourney…IMO.

  • @Hawk8086 Because he cant shoot or elevate, I would rather see KJ out there, even with his defensive liability. Rebounding would be about the same. Less effort but taller.

@cragarhawk That spike by Lawson sure looked like someone who doesn’t give a damn.

No just a mentally weak individual matching his weak physique. I wish he was the NBA ready man he thinks he is.

This was the game today. 3-18

Weren’t we told KU needs to shoot more threes? Only way to win is to bomb away and be like Nova?!? Lolololololol

This is a first weekend exit squad.

I truly believe so. Anything even if we win the 2nd game - -is pure gravy at this point. -Sad to think that at the beginning of the year - we were Serious contenders for the Title - hard to remember even being Ranked # 1 at any point during the season. - - Thank GOD the season for Rankings is over or our streak of being ranked in the top 25 would be in real jeopardy. - Just been a really bad year in KU sports.

It’s ok though - -I’m not going to try and fool myself - - it is what it is just sit back and watch them let it fly they win I’ll still be proud. -if we a 4 sees means we play a 12 seed - -could be dangerous for sure - major problem with this team - -just to inconsistent - long scoring droughts - you just can’t have long stretches without scoring the ball - -especially in the tourney - -were lacking that dominant force on both ends - - a true stud - but I’m still here.

ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG MY FRIENDS - – HAPPY ST PAT’S DAY

If anyone wants to watch a fun game, Wichita State is tied up with Cincy with 3 minutes to go. WSU needs to win their tourney to get into the NCAAT.

    OOOPS - - that didn’t happen lol

Their legs are fine. These are 20-year olds. Iowa St has played 3 straight games too by the way. What they lack is effort and shooting ability.

That’s what I was saying yesterday to - -at the radio when Haney was trying to talk about tired legs - -don’t think he was fricking listening to me - -he kept saying oh could it be dead legs. - like you said Hell this was Iowa St’s 3rd day in a row too

Soo if your going to try and blame this on tired legs - soo your saying Iowa St’s conditioning is better then ours

    • -their 3 straight day to - so that’s got to be what your saying - - -Iowa St conditioning Coach better then ours seeing as how we got tired legs and Iowa St don’t?

We have to much inconsistency - -long scoring droughts - ineffective shooting - - what was our 3 pt percentage yesterday - -might have a game of decent 3’s then go 2-3 games where they couldn’t make a 3 if their life depended on it. - Our loss wasn’t because of tired legs - maybe part but in no way was that the reason
