Unless they are serious complications, an impacted tooth removal is fairly straight forward and routine procedure with only local anesthetic. Relief is immediate and recovery very quick. I had two impacted wisdom teeth removed many moons ago and had immediate relief and in a couple of days could not tell a procedure had been done; procedures are considerably better now.
-
Unless there are complications all he will get is OTC pain killers. With the opiate epidemic doctors and dentists will not prescribe them unless absolutely necessary.
-
@JayHawkFanToo they don’t always need removed. Drained, antibiotics, maybe root canal. Depends how bad.
-
The most commonly impacted teeth are the back molars or wisdom teeth and they are always removed since they really serve no purpose and only create problems; many dentist will routinely remove them to prevent future problems. Now, if it’s a different tooth or teeth that might be different. Typically wisdom teeth cause problems for most people when they are 17-25 so it is likely that this is the issue.
If he start high fiveing with Walton we will know he was given the hard stuff.

@JayHawkFanToo you know more than a dentist!
-
@JayHawkFanToo impacted is different too
-
I had them, my kids had them, one of my grand kids just had it and WebMD has lots of information.
-
@JayHawkFanToo not trying to be a smarta$$ here, but an impacted wisdom tooth is different than an abcessed tooth. You can look it up or ask my son.

So which is it? - -I’m sincere here, do we know which for sure? – Like you say I had all 4 impacted Wisdom teeth - they were all impacted. Shot pain clear back into behind my ear.
When I went in Dentist said they had to wait a week to do anything - -my gums was so full of poison they said they had to get that cleared up 1st.
That’s been Soooooo long ago. to so you just how long ago - -they actually put me in the hospital and I spent the night after the surgery.
I had really long roots, but got real lucky when they pulled them - NO dry socket - - really didn’t turn black or blue - -didn’t really swell that bad - had more trouble with the Gauge they put in my mouth then anything else and that was because it got so soaked from the blood. - -But ya pretty big difference. - -so which is it? – -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I was going from info on a thread on Facebook that indicated an impacted wisdom tooth that got infected/abscessed; I know you have better information than I do and it is not my intent to argue one way or another, simply providing information I have based on my personal experience. Both of my left wisdom teeth were of this type and the two on the right side were fine but the dentist removed all four anyway; no more problems since then.

@JayHawkFanToo fb said vick had an impacted wisdom tooth that got infected? I didn’t know that. Just read what Self said.

Sorry, I was watching games with friends. It was earlier on Facebook but cannot seem to find it now, interesting.
