Can't Sleep On The Exhibitions

  • Sounds like Ferris state is a decent d2 team, but even then a team with expectations as high as Michigan State should have beat them by 20 or 30. Maybe they completely overlooked the game?

Yeah, MSU is #2 in the country in some polls.

No doubt Bridges missing some time didn’t help. They shot VERY poorly.

Here is the box score for reference.

  • @BShark wow that’s bad. Weren’t they a pretty good shooting team last year?

  • @HawkChamp Yeah they were okay last year from 3, but they lost a couple shooters. Bridges coming back was huge, but due to their roster he will have to play the 3 now. They just have basically no guard depth. In fact they are basically the opposite of us. Langford and Winston are the only guards they have that I would be interested in for KU. Nairn is okay-ish, but a catch 22 because he can’t shoot. I’d happily take like, their 5th post player on this Kansas team. They wouldn’t even feel it, and it would help KU tremendously.

  • Yeah shooting could be a problem for them. Those numbers are pretty horrific. Who did they lose from last year?

  • Eron Harris and Alvin Ellis. Both were around 20 mpg guys because Izzo. Harris was about 38% from deep.

  • Thanks

  • If I remember right we barely bare bear Washburn one year. Think it was tight thru out but we pulled away to win bye double digits. Think it was 2012 or 2013.

  • @kjayhawks I remeber something of the sorts. They were a good D2 team, but it didn’t leave me feeling good about our squad.

62-50 win over Washburn in the 12-13 season is probably what you are thinking of. Last year was only and 18 point win actually, but wasn’t nearly as uncomfortable as that one.

  • @BShark

Interesting. Ferris State made the same number of shots from the field and from the 3 in fewer tries. The difference was in the FTs.

  • @BShark

I believe we are a good deal more vulnerable to an upset than MSU.

Having a great point guard like Devonte normally makes such an upset unlikely, but if Doke and Preston were to get fouled up, I don’t think our guys have figured out how to rebound, even with them, and it could get very scary without the two bigs.

Fortunately, we are not playing Washburn this time. A really tough ball control and defensive team from DII could give this team fits this time of year.

  • If our bigs get fouled up by Pitt State players then KU has no chance of winning its 14th title and should not be ranked in the top 5. KU has way too much firepower and experience on the backcourt; it will be a 20+ point win, even with end of benchers playing.

  • @JayHawkFanToo outside of Billy, we did not have any significant foul trouble against players bigger, more athletic and more talented than anyone in Pitt states entire history. I will be surprised if this is under 20.

Staying out of foul trouble is not that tough. My band director in college would always say “play smart not stupid”. Move your feet, don’t reach, stay vertical and rotate. Do the fundamentals and we’ll be fine.

  • One thing that is completely out of the players’ control is the officiating. If an official decides a certain guy is a fouler, he’ll get fouls called on him. Even if he does the same thing another guys does. Or if situationally there needs to be a foul called because the balance of fouls is out of whack. With another season, comes more horrible officiating.

  • @HighEliteMajor Watch out, the ref defenders might get upset. 😂

It happens on the professional level even. A player gets a rep, and it sticks with them. So many refs have to make it about them instead of the game. It’s a power trip job for some.

  • @HighEliteMajor

If we are still talking about the exhibition game or games, unlikely that KU gets an unfavorable whistle; at least not if the refs want to work KU games at AFH again.
