Charlie Moore transferring

  • @FarmerJayhawk I recall Charlie when he transferred saying he wanted to be closer to home. It’s why ILL fans thought he would end up there. Not saying it was for the same reason as now, I just recall it being mentioned.

  • From the Journal World:

Moore, whose father has been battling health problems for some time, took to Instagram on Saturday evening to confirm the news himself and deliver an official goodbye.

“First of all, I want to thank the entire Rock Chalk Jayhawk Nation,” Moore’s post began. “These past two years I’ve learned so much and couldn’t ask for a better college environment to be a part of. Through this process, I’ve been dealing with my father being (ill), which has now taken a toll on my mom, causing her to be in and out of the hospital the last couple of months. I feel it’s best for me to be home with my family to help them out daily.”

Moore emphasized that his decision to leave KU was not “a basketball decision” and added that it was “a tough personal decision that had to be made,” before signing off with a simple farewell of “Again, thanks for everything.”

  • Personal issues can certainly influence on-court performance. People have wondered why his play this year was so much poorer than the numbers he put up at Cal. I think we finally have a plausible reason. Both parents being ill and hospitalized would be a serious distraction.

  • Why can’t we get one of these low key diamonds in the rough that explodes onto the scene around tourney time. Where are these kids? And how do we get one? Self and Co looking in the all too familiar AAU circuit. We always hear about some kid from no where that explodes onto the scene. But because he didn’t have the top 5 blue bloods looking at him, he gets nothing. Like the kid that set the NCAA 3pt record in one game. Then he crapped a brick in the next game.

  • Moore may be a great kid, but he was obviously all wrong for KU. He was the most absolute waste of paper of any transfer ever. I just can’t get over how he was a total failure. He just did not translate. All he was good for was to give Dotson a really quick blow. But everytime he got on the court, I was always skeptical and counted down to when Dotson came back in the game.

  • @truehawk93 Sounds like you’re describing Graham and Mason! But thinking now about what you wrote I’m guessing you are referring to finding that diamond in the rough transfer, not recruit.

your statement was exactly what I was thinking. - -I was gonna say - -OH you mean like a Frank - - -or Devonte right? - -Then I thought no - -I’m not gonna say that - -because Frank didn’t just explode into that - - Took some time more gradual then exploding - but him and Devonte was for sure a diamond in the rough that didn’t really get by the blue bloods - I would not trade either one for nothing. - -

Frank and Devonte both was really good their Senior years - -really good developmental 4 yr players. - -You know what I’m trying to say - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • I just think the staff honestly completely whiffed on evaluating Moore. It’s not the end of the world and it happens. They thought he would be a legit 20-25 minute backup PG who could shoot the 3.

    It didn’t happen .

  • Well we are one year removed from Malik. Without that guy no way we beat Duke in e8

  • @approxinfinity Explain to me again why Malik isn’t with the program this season???

  • @dylans G league money

  • @Crimsonorblue22 😂 his degree would pay better. Maybe he’ll get some of that Euro ball money.

He was never going to get drafted unless he either developed into a true PG or grew 3". Better to go make some money while he can since he’s old for his class.

  • @FarmerJayhawk With a full year of performing the way he did in the post season last year, he might have played his way into the draft. He just hadn’t showed that sustained level of performance yet. If he could have kept it going this year, a lot of people would have been watching him.

Same reason Wayne Selden left after his junior year. Their draft stock was only going to decrease the following year. Leaving when they did was their best chance to catch on with a team during Summer League.

  • Well. I understand the reasoning. But with hindsight being 20-20 it’s clearly a bad one.

  • Jahvon Quinnerly (probably totally butchered that spelling) is transferring from Nova. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t KU one of his final options? If so, do you think Self goes after him, ala M. Newman?

  • I’d go nowhere near Quinerly.

Noooope. Quinerly is going to end up at a mid major and hopefully will be the wake up call the kid needs

  • @ZIG

KU was one of his options but I think he did a good job of ruining his short term career after his immaturity shined through early in the season

  • Charlie is headed to Depaul

Well, at least the want to be close to home line seems very legit with this.

Rumor has it that Moore had been back and forth to Chicago a few times this year due to his parents being ill. This is one of those cases where what people are saying publicly (non-basketball decision, desire to be closer to home) are actually the real reasons. He’s dealing with some family stuff. That’s tough at any age.

Yep. I think it affected him above the neck more than he let on.

  • @FarmerJayhawk I feel bad for the things I said, sorry chuck!🙏

Living his best life right now as Depaul has played the following teams by Kenpom ranking: 338, a D2 school (I think) and #237.

  • @BShark that’s great news!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Agree.

Worth nothing Markese Jacobs has been pretty bad on D. Maybe he would have toughed it out at KU though, the kid we mushed him for sure didn’t.

Will be much more interesting to track Jacobs and Moore once Depaul starts playing meaningful competition.

  • 57 % from the 3 - 90 % ft - - -well good to see I reckon

  • One of Charlies teammates is former KU commit Markese Jacobs of whom I was super excited to see in Lawrence. Thinking we didn’t miss much after he tailed off his senior year of HS.

  • Man Charlie and Depaul taking it to Iowa right now 21-6 - -at Iowa - -they said Charlie is 9-15 from the 3 this year - -great start

  • Charlie shining in a ball dominant role. Problem is we had three guys last year that needed the ball in their hand to be effective.

  • Mercy 46-24 Depaul
