always used my user name DanR to log in before, so the switch to the email login was basically seamless. I didn't even have to change my avatar back or anything. I also just changed my password back to what I used before. Passwored12335! Just kidding.

On rivalry Sunday for me, wow it was a big one. KU-Misery and then Bears Packers. That actually was a very good game, but no one cares out there in Chiefs country.
So my take on what's been going on. I'm really loving this years team. Flory is becoming more and more what we thought he'd be. Not sure I can remember a big with his explosive hops. He comps to Doke somewhat but it looks different. The price of DP coming back is the little flurry we saw of success from Elmarko and Jamari takes a back seat to DP and his amazing game. We're gonna need those guys so I hope we can count on them as we did in Vegas.
Council drives me nuts.
White had an awesome game. I saw enough Illinois last year that I wasn't all that excited to see he was playing for us. But I'm impressed and he is indispensible to our success this year.
I hate the helter skelter style of ball Misery plays. It's not pretty, not all that effective really. I watched Marquette do the same yesterday against UW. Didn't work, after a slow start, UW scored 86 points in the last 30 minutes of game time.
Did you know KU is the only team to not allow a team to shoot 30% on 3's this year? Is Bill Selfs old defense back? Seems like it hasn't been strong for a while, but the lack of timeouts quickly after our opponents score an unguarded 3 is an indicator that it's not happening very often.
DP's game was kind of strange. He had some really ugly shots. He also had some really pretty shots. Rest that hammy young man.
RCJHKU!

Nice to see this team with such good D. 8th in the country good. It saw us thru some scoring droughts. Then, when the shots start falling again, things heat up quick. Hope we keep it up, and that we see a healthier DP against NC State next Saturday.

Nice stat drop on the 3pt defense. Some of it is pure luck but I do think the switching defense and the length/athleticism of the team has created fewer good shots for opponents from 3. I see improvements when contesting shots, close outs. This is a good defensive team when they play together.
Upcoming games against NC State & Davidson will test this 3pt defense as both are shooting near 40% as a team. NC St has 4 guys with more made 3's then anyone on KU (35% of their offense this season from 3). 4 guys are individually shooting over 47% from 3 so they look like they will be a difficult assignment on the road next weekend.
-
Full games from DP still allude us but we definitely need him in 5 days as much as he can go & hopefully another week of practice pushes him forward towards 100%. NC St has a Top 20 offense but 80's on D so we need all of DP's offense to compete in this one

Welcome back wissox.
@BeddieKU23 teams take a ton of threes against us as well. I do think the defense is a lot better this year. Last year despite the good KP rating we know they couldn't get a stop when it mattered plus it was just kind of obvious that good teams or even mediocre teams could bombard them with open threes.
-
@BShark This is where the focus on athleticism is really showing. Yes, the switching is nice thanks to Flory and Tiller being able to move their feet really well, but the real work is happening with guys like McDowell and Council helping and recovering with speed and aggressiveness. They are really challenging those three point shots and forcing the overall offense to start a few steps further from the line than the opposing team would like.
I might get hate for this but it does cause me a little concern with DP coming back. His individual defense was... meh and his cohesion with the whole group was certainly lacking. It's to be expected somewhat with so few reps together. I've now seen him leave his man to try to get a steal multiple times. It worked pre hiatus, but that's the kind of stuff that will get exploited by opposing coaches in conference.
Now he did score 17 in limited minutes seemingly fairly easily. But anyone else notice the difference in pace when he is on the floor? Don't get me wrong, he is yet to step on the floor and have a bad offensive performance, but as I'm sure most people are thinking, I definitely still want more from him. (and yeah, if he plays 15 minutes against UCONN we would have won that game...)
-
@benshawks08 he was sick the day before, not strong yesterday.
-
@crimsonblu22 Yep. And first game back from injury. Understandable, but after being told he was day to day for 3 weeks, at some point the expectations do have to set in. He was good yesterday. He wasn't the best player in the country which fair or not, is the level he is being judged at. He wasn't even the best player on the floor. I'm hopeful we will see him at full strength at some point.

Some day after thoughts
-Last night I was mulling over whether I would trade our win over misery for a Chiefs win over the Texans. Ultimately, I don't think I would. The reasoning: another loss to misery, and upon DPs return could have been very deflating and could have impacted the team psychologically. I do not want a 3rd bad season in a row. The Chiefs on the other hand, were a lost cause. Even if they did win and sneak into the playoffs, they would have probably lost on the road in the first round. Its just not their year. Maybe next season.
-misery fans on other sites after the game reinforce my belief that they are immoral by condemning John Brown and boasting about the burning of Lawrence
-misery fans on other sites also have reinforced me belief that they are stupid by talking about how "kU fans" and "chickenhawks" are "scared to play Mizzou". After we beat them 80-60. That is stupidity beyond satire.
-Flory needs to get back to being efficient around the basket. Be strong and try to draw contact!
-Tiller is a KJ level shooter. Is KJ's strategy of just not attempting 3s, or Tillers strategy of chucking bricks when left open superior?
-Speaking of Tiller, by gum, he and Flory form a menacing front line. Both are shot-blockers who can guard the perimeter
-Maybe one day we will get to see a game where DP just plays with no strings attached. No minutes restrictions, no going to the locker room, no bugs, no sitting the whole second half, no constant cutbacks of the staff working on him on the bench. fwiw, I am not criticizing DP, just commenting on the situation.
-If we want to make noise in March, Tre White has to show up.
-I wish we would have redshirted Ngiya. He is not playing, which is fine, but I think he has enough to contribute that he's worth keeping around for the future. Tiller, Jackson, and McDowell are reminding us of the value of a good redshirt player.

@drgnslayr White as a guard getting a lot of boards and not just this game shows a player who is not afraid to stick his nose in where the rough places are.
He makes it hard for others to argue that we don't have enough height to be a strong rebounding team. The guy is a vacuum cleaner on the boards!

@drgnslayr It's kind of wild but I feel pretty good with Jamari being the 6th man.
I do, too. Jamari still has upside left in the tank, too. As his confidence grows, so will his game. I love his threat as a trey shooter. Teams will always give him that, thinking he can't make it. He can. I also think everytime he hits one of those the whole team gets excited about it.
People aren't really talking about this... but I see a team REALLY COMING TOGETHER as a team! These guys get excited for each other, and are unselfish. DP is expected to shoot often, but even he is unselfish.
If we can stay healthy and keep with this trajectory, we will be scary come March!
-
Can we already place a bet for Kansas to cut down the nets? I might put a little cabbage on it.
-
@benshawks08 Darryn definitely had some bad defensive moments but I think his offense easily offsets it and more. Our offense is...dire without him to put it kindly. He completely changes the game. Of course him being sick was a consideration.

The redshirt year really did wonders for him. I would agree this team seems to like each other. Light years better than last year in that regard.

@Jayhawk_69 If you were watching Mizzery's post game you could see Mitchill seemed very honest and respectful while Gates I didn't have enough hankies to let use crying and whining so much.
Gates belly aching saying they had five turnovers and three of them were Mitchell' didn't understand-- -also didn't realize how you could get a double technical when his player got hit in the face , then he went on and bitching about how this was suppose to be on a neutral site then talked about how the arena was about 90/10 % UU fans , and saying this was a Missouri road game and ALL these games should be played on each others campus- - -Also saying there is absolutely no reason what so ever this series should be interrupted , should be played every year,
