<![CDATA[Post Upgrade Explanation]]>Alright. Let me try to organize my thoughts post upgrade and give people some clear direction.

  1. The upgrade is done.
  2. There was some instability but I think it has been resolved.
  3. If you see instability, or need assistance of any kind, either message me here or email me at approxinfinity@gmail.com. Please realize that by informing me of problems, of which I may not be aware, you help the whole community. So if the answer isn't clear from this email, please speak up.
    4. Note that I am forcing everyone to reset their password. This was necessary to preserve everyones accounts on the new board, and to avoid account data corruption that I encountered.
    5. I realize that some people don't have emails or have access to their emails on their accounts. If this is the case, and you want to recover your old account, please register a new account and reach out to me from that account, or email me.
  4. After you register and post, I have to approve the first post. After that you're golden. This is to fight the bots. It's a bit of a bottle neck, but I will keep on top of it.
  5. Another possible option if password reset fails, since we have the luxury of an editable archive, is for you to message me on the archive board in DM and tell me what you want your password to be and i can manually set it. Please exhaust other channels first if you can. If you had an email you have access to it should be recoverable.

Now onto the good stuff.

Our data pre-migration still lives on, and is accessible in an archive that you can toggle between. See the first category on our board, and the first category on the archive toggles you back. That category takes you to archive.kubuckets.com

That archive, for the time being, is still editable, because of the instability we experienced. I'll leave it editable and periodically check it for a bit. You may authenticate with your account on the archive as well. Just keep in mind thats an old copy of your account with your old password on there. I know that may be confusing to some. I will not leave the archive editable for very long.

Our SEO is now in a much better place and this shoudl attract more new people as we continue our discussions. This should be a very positive thing to keep a spirited group going! SEO is "Search Engine Optimization". It means that the bots can find our public threads and thinks that our SSL is secure. There were issues on the old board, because www.kubuckets.com SSL didn't work, only kubuckets.com. Now both www.kubuckets.com and kubuckets.com work have functional SSL certs. Yay!

I also killed 45000 bot users gasp, which may have been the reason that the automatic migration didn't work (it just ground to a halt after a few hours). This board should be clean as a whistle.

The nodebb platform has gone through 3 major releases since the version we were stuck on! Lots of goodies. I need to explore everything, but I believe you'll find a lot of the bugs you've come to be familiar with to be fixed. There will undoubtedly be new ones (haha) but hopelessly no show stoppers.

Anyway. I feel really good about this, it's something I have wanted to do for a long time. I couldn't bring all of our data with us the normal way, but I did bring it in an archive. Later, I think I will migrate that archive over to the new server, and then it can live on with us forever for posterity.

Just click your profile picture and you get a drop down box and can see all your notifications from whom you follow or who added to a topic that you are following. There used to be an icon for Unread - think it was next to Categories.

Not a big deal, just a convenience that a lot of us (I think) used to default to.

It seems like there are paths on both but may differ. Theres now a right and a left expanding menu at least on mobile, and the right one has three items on top, if you tap the leftmost one its all of your recent events.

I had to (sorry, it wouldnt let me force validate, ie tell the system “theyre already valid” unless i did) in order to then force validate you. This should now allow you to password reset your account through the site.
