Now is the time… when history becomes locked down in our memories.
I was looking for a handle for this team, to encapsulate a definition that fit.
It wasn’t too hard. Coach Self gave a clue… "…the confidence, the toughness, mental toughness, grit. That’s what got it done.”
Grit! True Grit! It’s the title of an old western… and that connects well with Bill Self Sr. and his comment “'Don’t worry about the mules, just load the wagon!”
The “True Grit” Jayhawks!
I hope it sticks… not just for this team, but for teams to follow that need something to grasp and what it means to be playing Kansas basketball!
