OK so CBS feels the need for their two cents worth

  • OK, just trying to understand WHY on Championship night CBS feels the need to bring this dam investigation into the Conversation. - -I mean it’s an interesting read check it out , it’s under What’s next for Coach Self.

They talked about what he might do, talking about how he wouldn’t be coaching in November do to upcoming for sure definite suspension looming according to sources saying that KU’s case will be handed sanctions in the near future - Severe sanctions according to CBS sources s saying Coach’s suspension could be from double digit games to an entire Season. - Wondering if he would stay and fight or saying maybe he steps away - -stating what does he have left to prove, saying he has won multiple National Championships now-- -won 14 straight Conference Championships which will neve be duplicated - -HOF Coach

They talk about how KU may not even be able to defend it’s title might be loss of Scholarships and the Suspension of Coach. - They brought up how he might step away from College and try a stint in the NBA as has been mentioned before Like I said interesting story - -YES - -BUT why did they feel the need to try and delute tonights Championship try and take away from the moment- typical CBS - check it out guys

  • When the Marlins won their first world series, the owner was being interviewed in the postgame and first question out of the interviewers mouth is “are you breaking down the team?” When the 50 greatest living baseball players were assembled pregame for an MLB all star game Pete Gray asks Pete Rose, while lined up on the field “did you gamble on baseball?” When Roy Williams was interviewed post game in 2003 first question was “are you going to Carolina?” His answer is famous in KU folklore of course. Reporters and media are notorious for this, and to be perfectly honest there’s a lot of Americans who liked the CBS article because they want to see us get it.

  • Defending this title will be exceptionally difficult. KU has to replace four of their top 7 players in Agbaji, McCormack, Martin and Lightfoot. Even if Yesufu and Pettiford step into Remy’s role, I doubt they are as effective as he was next year. Even if Braun continues to improve (and returns), does either Dick or Rice fully replace what Agbaji brought? Same question for Wilson. And how do we replace what McCormack did down the stretch?

Simply put, investigation or not, next year’s team will likely take a bit of a step back. Look what happened to Baylor this year. They were good, but got derailed by injuries as the season wore on. Gonzaga just wasn’t quite as good this year. It’s hard to duplicate this type of success in college basketball because you have to replace so many key pieces after a season like this.

Bask in this glory, because its a long way back up the mountain.

Kind of crazy and trying to figure out how but ESPN had an article that has KU as the favorite to repeat as NCAA Champs next yr 2023: according to Caesars Sportsbook KU is 10/1 - -Gonzaga 12/1 - -Ariz - Kentucky - -& Duke - -15/1- that’s crazy

  • Sports Illustrated included questions about the possible sanctions in two of its articles.

Considering how many comments are made about KU being cheaters all over social media and in comments to every article in The Athletic, I think these are legitimate questions.

It might feel jarring to see them brought up now, but I have the same questions to be honest.

Since it has been reported that we still have a hearing this spring in front of the IARP (Infinitely Agonizing Reproval Procedure), I find it difficult to believe sanctions have already been chosen, or that CBS or anyone else has a freaking clue about it. If the report of a hearing is not true, all bets are off, of course.

A lot of the Way Too Early top 25 polls have KU in the top 10 again and several have KU in the top 5. KU will be loaded once again with a very good recruiting class including two potential OAD caliber players.

  • ESPN’s 4th headline in the College Basketball section " Does anyone care that Kansas’ Championship is tarnished by NCAA Investigation".

    Never stop a**holes

  • @approxinfinity

Perfect response in much “nicer” words then I would have used.

  • KU will be good because KU is literally ALWAYS good. Not only has KU made every tournament since 1990, the seedings KU has had are pretty amazing:

    Number one seeds in 1992, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2022. Number two seeds in 1990, 1993, 1996, 2003, 2012, 2014, and 2015. Number three in 1991, 2005, 2009 and 2021. Number four in 1994, 2001, 2004, 2006, and 2019 Number six in 1999. Number eight in 2000.

So Kansas has been to the last 32 tournaments, has been a top 8 seed every time, a top 4 seed for 30 of those (including every year since 2001), a two seed seven times and a top seed fourteen times. So nearly half the time over the last three plus decades, KU has been a number one seed. Not just in the tournament - a number one seed. Two thirds of the time, they are either a 1 or a 2. And every year for the last two decades plus, KU has been a top four seed. They are ALWAYS good.

So the question isn’t whether KU will be in the top 10 or 15. That’s basically a given at this point.

The question is whether they will be able to get to the stage on the first Monday in April. That is what will be tough. They will be one of the teams that could get to that stage. But it’s likely that Baylor will be. I wouldn’t be surprised to see UNC in that conversation. Arizona. Arkansas. Houston. UCLA. Duke. Kentucky. Villanova will probably be in the mix. Michigan could be there. Gonzaga depending on who all is back. KU is on that list, but that list includes a lot of other teams.

But KU is always on that list. Just since the 2008 title, KU was a #1 or #2 seed 10 times in 13 tournaments. They are on the list. They are always on the list. But being on the list, and being the only one left at the end are two very different things.

For instance, imagine that Remy Martin never gets fully healthy. Does KU still win the title? Probably not.

Imagine Big Dave’s foot doesn’t hold up for the entire run. Does KU still win the title?

What if Och or Braun had gotten injured like the guy from Villanova did during the tournament? Championships are hard because you don’t have a ton of margin for error. That may not be the case next year in the case of injuries.

But if you’re on the list, you have a chance, and Kansas will be on that list.

  • Literally EVERYTHING clicked right for us on this run. Can it happen again, as soon as next year? Sure it can! Is it likely? It’s as likely as anyone else. I bet Duke will be loaded with NBA talent again. It didn’t work out enough for the title. Anything is possible. This is college basketball. I don’t remember reading anyone in here this past year that we were a shoe-in to win this year (and put me in that bunch)!

This year was MAGIC… a combination of players being focused, working hard, coaches working hard, and then all the other things fell in place. Click, click, click, National Championship!

  • @jayballer67

CBS, and all media, focuses on “click bait” whether it’s online or on the tube. They are fighting for viewers and need to display as many key words as possible and make sure it is controversial.

The majority of America is NOT a Jayhawk fan… so it makes sense for them to dilute and disenfranchise the Jayhawk brand.

So Roy is gone, Coach K is gone… Self wins another title… he moves up on the food chain and becomes a bigger target, along with KU… and especially because we are in the Midwest and most of the sports fans are not.

Obviously, I am happiest when KU wins a title… but I am also happy when Baylor wins a title… or any team in the Midwest. It gives a one-finger salute to the east (and west) coast media that loves to use the Midwest as a whipping post.
