Today really puts things in perspective for me

  • Well guys , you all know I have been here for a minute now. Had some great threads from people , had some discussions - - some heated - - some not , but after the news I received today all seems minor.

My wife is on Oxygen 24/7 - -has really Severe COPD & forgive me for the spelling as that is not one of my great strengths & but the wife also has emphysma again sorry know that’s not right

Well she went to the lung doctor the other day , has been saying her lungs sound good , so she comes home and a little later phone rings and it’s the Lung Doctor himself asking the wife if she had some minutes to where she could talk. You have to know when the specialist himself calls – not one of his staff , but the Doctor himself - - it can’t be good.

So he proceeds to tell her that after she left he had went back through all her hospitalizations & Dr visits & treatments he was checking cause he said as severe as her COPD is – her emphysma should be just as bad and it wasn’t anywhere close. Soooo he checked some things and told her - - she has a diease & it’s an incurable diease But he wanted her to take a blood test as she had never been tested - - she has it but he wants to see how bad , test her to see if it turned positive or negative to the degree so they could figure out their next step to try and fight/and or control.

So she took the test yesterday , they said if it comes back Negative then they can help control through medicine. If it comes back POSITIVE- - - - - not good , then chances are she will need a liver transplant. - This is called ALPHA -1 has something to do with the liver not filtering out CO-2 like it should , so if she needs a liver transplant more likely then not - we all know how long of wait that can be and the whole process

So I guess what I’m really saying is - -if you feel it in your heart , if you believe - -we could sure use your prayers / – your thoughts. Really puts life and every thing else into perspective makes you realize there are bigger things in life then sports. - -makes for some long days - - don’t know what I would do if something happened - -would be lost , she is quite a bit younger then me - - I’m 66 - - She is 53. - -should find out the results in about two weeks - -gonna be a long two weeks. - Thanks for listening my friends - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • I’ll pray.

thank ya buddy appreciate that. kind of Scary , she is a lot younger don’t know what I’d do if something happens.

Found out today a little more and basically it’s a inherited disease, bad genes from both Parents .it’s called the Alpha -1 disease- -and what it is a lack of protein in the liver , incurable

BUT the best thing we can hope for even though she has it - -they ran this blood test to see how severe she has it , the best we can hope for is for the test to come back Negative. - iif it comes back Negative they can try and help it by Medicine BUT if it comes back positive then not good they might have to do a liver biopsy , might have to go through the whole process of a liver transplant.

She can get basically blood transfusions but that’s a lot she would have to have transfusions once a week - -that’s A LOT. - basically that would be healthy blood into her through a IV try to bring the protein up in her liver ,so basically the best we can hope for is for it to come back negative and have her taking meds. - - Thanks for your thoughts appreciate it

Thank you appreciate the thoughts & Vibes buddy. I know she will be all right - -got to stay positive. The nurse that did the test DID say that a lot of these test results almost always come back negative. - - That’s a good thing , as if it does then that means the lesser of the , two evils as they then could use medication to help - -the other side is probably liver transplant and blood transfusions once a week - - - NOT GOOD.

Again appreciate ya , just a lot going on right now , my wife then just found out that my Sister looks like has gotten Alzheimers & has gotten really bad forgetting a lot. Sad to see her this way she is 74. She is going to have to take B-12 shots for 5 days in a row then once a week for 6 months and then one a month to try and slow. She has to go and get a driving test done to see how she does , Dr concerned about her driving skils now - - just a mess a ;ot on the ol plate. - - Thanks again

I echo the sentiments of everyone else on this board. Sometimes the words “thoughts and prayers” seem inadequate, but I’ll pass them along anyway. Hope for the best for both of you.
